GO APPLE CANYON LAKE is a walking initiative based off of the GO GURNEE initiative. It is designed to improve the health of residents and build community spirit through the simple act of walking.

The GO initiative was founded by the Gurnee Park District in 2016. It was inspired by a presentation and physical activity challenge from the former Surgeon General, Vivek K. Murthy.

The first stage of the movement is to encourage our community to walk at least 30 minutes each day.

Get involved.

GO events or programs are open to all ages. Grab a friend or family member and visit one of the walking trails or simply walk in your own neighborhood.

Our goal is to get everyone in our community to take a walk in their own neighborhoods or at a park/trail of their preference every day this Summer!

If you are unfamiliar with the Harold Bathum Nature Trail, it is located on South Apple Canyon Rd, across from the Dam. Click here to see an aerial shot of the trail entrance.

If you are interested in becoming a GO Champion and wish to lead a weekly walk please Email:  tim.brokl@applecanyonlake.org

We are excited to launch the GO APPLE CANYON LAKE Challenge. Throughout the months of July and August, we challenge you to get out and walk 30 minutes a day! To complete the challenge, you may either join us for one of our Champion lead walks or walk a trail or neighborhood of your choice. While on your walk, snap a selfie on the trail or in the neighborhood you are walking with a “thumbs up” and email it to tim.brokl@applecanyonlake.org to track your progress. Submit 15 selfies between July 1 and August 31 and you will earn your very own GO ACL t-shirt! T-shirts will be ordered and available to pick up at the ACL Office by mid-September.
