The focal point of Apple Canyon Lake is the 480-acre lake itself, which is approximately 3 miles long with over 15 miles of shoreline. The lake has consistently ranked in the top 10 for water quality and clarity of all lakes monitored by the Illinois EPA. An active lake management program is in place to ensure these high standards.

Apple Canyon Lake Property Owners Association encompasses 14 subdivisions containing 2,746 lots all owned by our property owners. The lake has a maximum depth of 82 feet, surface area of 400+ acres, and includes approximately 15 miles of shoreline. The property encompasses approximately 2,366 acres and has a network of greenways distributed amongst the subdivisions, common areas, and along the lake shore, where 75 percent of the shoreline is common property.  There are approximately 925 homes.

Open to residents and their guests only, this planned recreational community offers a club house; swimming pool; beach and bath house; multi-sport complex featuring tennis, volleyball and basketball courts; campground with shower house, restrooms, and laundry facilities; 13-mile trail system used for hiking, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), and cross-country skiing; and two walking-only trails.  Swimming is permitted at the pool and in the lake in no-wake zones and the main body of water within 75 feet of the shoreline.  In addition to a full-service marina, ACL offers boat rentals and boat slip rentals to its members, while the Marina store itself, ACL’s nine-hole golf course and pro shop, and The Cove lakefront restaurant are open to the public.

Water skiing, canoeing, and kayaking are popular boating activities, while many owners prefer tubing behind a power boat or a slow, relaxing ride aboard a pontoon. Power boats are restricted to a 40 mile per hour limit on the lake, and five miles per hour in no-wake zones.  A large number of bays, coves, and no-wake zones offer multiple opportunities for viewing deer, squirrels, rabbits, raccoons, beavers, otters, and other small wildlife.  The lake is stocked for fishing with large mouth bass, walleye, channel catfish, crappie, and bluegill.  Bass and kids fishing tournaments are popular in the summer.
